Disconnecting Outlook PST File
The path for the Exchange.pst file is incorrect.
How are Outlook PST files created and where are they saved?
When you first run Outlook, a necessary data file (.pst) is automatically created and stored in the user's Documents\Outlook Files folder. PST files are used when the online mailbox is almost full; you can create a .PST file to store some items on a separate drive (exporting as an Outlook data file) or create archive files, project files, or backups from your Outlook account.
Types of Errors That May Occur When Downloading, Checking, and Deleting Third-Party Emails
When a member of the organization leaves the company, and there’s a need for another person to follow up on the work the departed employee was handling, the IT team can assist by downloading the third-party email file (.PST) to check it in the Outlook account.
After completing this task, if there is no longer a need to check the emails, the user may delete the email folder. However, after deletion, the following error may appear when launching Outlook:
'...\The path for the Exchange.pst file is incorrect.'
This error message appears when the PST file is removed while it is still connected.
It is not enough to just remove the PST file; you must also delete the path connected to your Outlook account to resolve the error.
[How to Delete the PST File Path]
After launching Outlook, click 'File' in the Outlook menu.
- Click on Info -> Account Settings.
2. Click on Account Settings.
3. In the Data Files tab, select the relevant .pst file entry and click Remove.
After that, if you restart Outlook, the error will be resolved.
I have prepared a separate summary regarding changing the location of Outlook PST files and the differences between .OST and .PST files, so please refer to the link below.
