Acne and Pimples by Face Area
What is acne?
Acne is one of the most common skin conditions experienced by people of all ages. Technically, acne occurs when bacteria residing inside hair follicles release an enzyme that breaks down triglycerides in sebum. This process forms free fatty acids, which irritate the follicle wall, causing it to rupture and release bacteria, sebum, and dead cells onto the skin, resulting in redness, pus, inflammation, and swelling.
While acne is commonly caused by the increase in male hormones during puberty, other factors like genetics, diet, hormones, and environmental elements also contribute to its occurrence.
I often experienced breakouts around my chin, possibly due to bacterial infections from shaving. However, recently, I've noticed a lot of acne on my forehead as well, prompting me to look into the causes of acne on different parts of the face.
Causes of Acne
- Genetics: If your parents had acne, you are more likely to experience it due to inherited DNA.
- Hormones: The enlargement of sebaceous glands due to an increase in male hormones during puberty promotes bacterial growth, leading to acne. Acne can also appear around the chin and mouth during menstruation or pregnancy.
- Stress: Excessive stress can stimulate hormones and sebaceous glands, leading to inflammatory skin conditions.
- External factors: External irritants like bangs, masks, or clothing can also cause acne.
Causes of Acne by Facial Area
Forehead:
The forehead is a common area for breakouts, often caused by dehydration, digestive issues, stress, or liver problems.
Nose:
Pimples on the nose are often linked to poor digestion, blood circulation issues, or constipation. These conditions can block pores and lead to both pimples and acne, so maintaining a healthy diet and proper skincare is key.
Between the eyebrows:
If you experience breakouts between your eyebrows, it may be due to a buildup of toxins in the liver (or gallbladder), consumption of greasy foods, or a dairy allergy. Excessive drinking or a high intake of fatty foods can cause acne in this area, so it's essential to maintain a healthy diet and reduce stress on the liver.
Chin:
Chin acne is often linked to hormonal issues or the consumption of spicy or fried foods. It can also be caused by frequent contact with the hands, as this area is easily contaminated.
Around the mouth:
Breakouts around the mouth are often related to constipation, colon issues, the uterus, or toxins within the body.
Cheeks:
Acne on the cheeks is associated with the stomach, colon, and kidneys. Smoking, overeating, and stress are common triggers.
Solutions for Acne
- Adopt healthy eating habits and increase water intake.
- Manage stress and practice relaxation techniques.
- Avoid touching your face with your hands and keep clothing and bedding clean.
- Wash your face with lukewarm water, avoid greasy foods, and limit late-night snacks. Reduce dairy intake, and consume fresh vegetables, fruits, and teas.
- Ensure you get enough sleep.
- Use creams with BHA ingredients. These help dissolve excess sebum in clogged pores, exfoliate dead skin cells, and reduce inflammation, potentially improving acne.
