Google Alerts is a free service that notifies users about new content related to specific keywords, phrases, or topics of interest. Whenever new search results matching the specified criteria are added to Google’s database, users receive notifications via email or RSS feeds.

Key Uses of Google Alerts:

• News and Information Gathering: Stay updated with the latest news and developments in topics of interest.
• Reputation Management: Track mentions of your brand or company online.
• Competitor Analysis: Monitor competitors’ activities and strategies.
• Content Curation: Find relevant, high-quality content for blogs or websites.
• Personal Use: Receive the latest news and articles on topics you’re interested in.

Automatically Collecting ChatGPT-Related Articles Using Google Alerts:

Recently, due to the rise in AI-related topics, I set up Google Alerts to automatically collect ChatGPT-related articles and store them in Google Sheets. Here’s how it’s done:

 

1. Setting Up Alerts:

Log in to Google Alerts, enter "ChatGPT" as the keyword, and click the edit button (pencil icon) to customize the settings.

 

2. Setting Notification Frequency and Location:

Set the notification frequency to "As-it-happens" and the delivery method to RSS feed. (Email delivery is also an option.)

 

3. Creating the RSS Feed:

Click "Update Alert," and an RSS feed icon will appear. Clicking this will provide the RSS feed URL for ChatGPT-related alerts. 

4. Integrating with Google Sheets:

Open Google Sheets, create a new sheet, and use the 'Importfeed' function. In the first parameter, input the RSS feed URL you copied earlier, and the content will automatically populate the sheet.

 

5. Configuring Article Collection:

Set the 'Importfeed' function to retrieve around 100 related article items.

 

Summary:

By registering a desired keyword with Google Alerts, you can receive new updates from the web in the form of an RSS feed. The collected data can also be automatically stored using automation tools like Zapier, and notifications can be sent to services like KakaoTalk or other social media platforms when updates occur (further details will be provided later).
