SAP Maintenance for SAP S/4HANA instance
SAP provides customers with the flexibility to decide how and when to upgrade to SAP S/4HANA 2023.
Start by checking your current SAP production version through the system status in SAP.
Next, review the milestones for the mainstream maintenance timeline for each on-premise version of S/4HANA as follows:
For instance, after the extended maintenance for SAP S/4HANA 1809 ends in late 2025, you can transition to 'Customer-Specific Maintenance.'
Once the mainstream maintenance period has expired, you have four options to consider:
1. S/4HANA version upgrade to the latest version
> Required upgrade project
2. Transfer S/4HANA platform to SAP PCE ( Private Cloud Edition ) from On-premise
> Infra & App. system is operated by SAP(subscription service)
3. Transfer to Customer-Specific Maintenance(No cost but Limited Service provided)
> Limited service means No delivery of legal changes, No delivery of new support packages, No guarantees for technological updates, No support of new interfaces, Available to get support only for known problem, No service level agreements.
You'd better considering upgrade project before of encountering customer-specific maintenance period for stable system operation
4. Transfer to Extended Maintenance Service ( 4% additional charge under current maintenance service level)
> In case of 1809 instance, 2 years extension is available
The simulation cost(4%) can be checked through SAP4Me site.
At the current, only #1709 version can be checked through the request. It's possible for #1809 & #1909 to check the cost later in 2023
- Upgrade to the Latest Version of S/4HANA
- This requires a formal upgrade project.
- Transfer S/4HANA to SAP PCE (Private Cloud Edition) from On-Premise
- In this scenario, the infrastructure and application systems will be managed by SAP as a subscription service.
- Opt for Customer-Specific Maintenance (No cost but limited services provided)
- Limited services mean no delivery of legal changes, no new support packages, no guarantees for technological updates, no support for new interfaces, and assistance is available only for known issues. There are no service level agreements.
It's advisable to consider an upgrade project before entering the customer-specific maintenance period to ensure stable system operation. - Extend Maintenance Service (with a 4% additional charge under the current maintenance service level)
- For the 1809 instance, a two-year extension is available.
You can check the simulation cost (4%) through the SAP4Me site. Currently, only the 1709 version can be verified through requests, while costs for 1809 and 1909 will be available later in 2023.
In the short term, we may need to choose option 4 (Extension of Maintenance Service), but option 1 (Upgrading to the Latest Version) presents a more sustainable long-term solution.
